Ewa Beach Real Estate
Community Information
Ewa Beach is located on the Leeward coast of Oahu, west of Honolulu. In fact, just as locals say they are heading ‘Diamond Head’ when going East, they use heading ‘Ewa’ to say they are going West. These terms are utilized even in labeling the ends of buildings here in Hawaii.
Lately, the Ewa Beach community was made famous for its Little League baseball team, who won the World Series, touching off celebrations all over Oahu, if not the entire state. A special city party was held on Waikiki Beach for the team, complete with a re-showing of the championship game on the beach’s giant movie screen. But there is more to Ewa Beach than a great sports program.
Ewa Beach is a surprisingly small community, at least for one that has produced a World Champion team. The population at the beginning of the 21st century stood at somewhere between 14,650 (in the city as designated by the Census Bureau) and 48,100, which included a larger general area defined as Ewa Beach. Whichever figure you use, this area has not seen the large-scale build-up of Honolulu or nearby Kapolei. That is one thing that is making it more and more attractive to buyers on Oahu.
Racially, the majority of residents are Asian (49%) and, in keeping with the multi-racial culture of Hawaii, 27% claimed 2 or more races. You are also likely to live by, or near, a family of Polynesian background. This segment makes up over 10% of the local population there, surpassed by Caucasians by only 1%. It is a true melting pot of cultures that makes life a rich experience.
Another advantage of the town’s smaller size, and its distance from Waikiki, is the lack of crowds on the beaches there. Those looking for a little more quiet and a lot less people will find it to be perfect. The beaches afford views of Diamond Head and Waikiki in the distance. Close enough to be enjoyed by sight, but far enough to keep you safe from the noise and activity. These views are excellent at night as well. Imagine walking slowly down the beach with the waves slowly lapping the shore, while in the distance city lights twinkle away. Not a bad way to end the day.
Golfers will find Ewa Beach to be situated perfectly as well. There are 6 golf courses within a 4 mile radius, including West Loch and Coral Creek. You won’t lack for places to play or fellow duffers to trade tips with.
Nearby Kapolei offers most entertainment and shopping needs that you’ll need. Water Park? Check. Movie theaters? Check. Shopping? Check. You can enjoy Kapolei’s benefits without the development. If you want food that’s a little fresher, you can shop at the Ewa Beach Farmer’s Market. It takes place at the Ewa Beach Community Park every Friday. It’s a good place to buy food as well as check in with friends and neighbors.
And if you want something less healthy, Ewa Beach has McDonald’s, Domino’s, as well as favorite local chain L & L’s.
Though it still has the small town feel, Ewa Beach also provides most of what you could ever need, or want, in Hawaii. From schools to beaches to shopping, you don’t have to go far. That gives you more time to live how you want to here on Oahu.
