Kaneohe Real Estate - Community Information

Despite Kailua's many strengths, there are some that don't like the development that's taken place there in recent years. Then there are others who want an island life even further off the beaten track of the tourist trade. Those are the people who live in, and love, Kaneohe.
There have been settlements on this site since ancient times, starting as a military outpost protecting the Oahu chiefs' domain. Kaneohe later became an important agricultural center due to the plentiful rainfall. Today, the town is mostly residential, bananas being the only thing now grown there. The rain has remained, however, which keeps the district green year round. One can see the full range of that color on a short walk around Kaneohe; from dark forest green to a bright emerald shade that sparkles when the sun hits it- and anything in between.

Hawaii history continued to mark this town as it became home for the staple industry of pineapple. Both a plantation and a cannery stood there. The darkest hour came on December 7, 1941 when the Kaneohe Marine Corp Base was the first place attacked by the Japanese.
Today, Kaneohe is a beautiful seaside community, just north of Kailua on Kamehameha Highway. Smaller and quieter than its neighbor, Kaneohe is a special community. You can live the island life here without worrying about a tour bus rumbling by.
The native coloring and climate has made it a good place for a golf course. Or in this case, 3 of them. One, the Pali Golf Course, is public, the other two – Ko’olau Golf Club and the Bayview Golf Park are not. They are open to the public, though.

The town proper had a population of approx. 35,000 as of the last census. Kailua, just down the road, is almost the exact same size, making them true sisters cities.
